Fisheries Resource Surveys cc. (FRS) is a Close Corporation company based in Cape Town, South Africa, providing broad professional support for monitoring and exploratory surveys of fish resources and for oceanographic surveys. We specialise in advising on and conducting acoustic surveys, and in providing training in fisheries acoustics to the local and regional scientific community. We also have experience in trawl surveys, and are Southern African agents for a wide range of oceanographic equipment, offering comprehensive sale and support services for these instruments throughout the region.
The Company is directed by Ian Hampton and Michael Soule who together have some 50 years of experience in acoustic surveys of marine resources in Southern African and Antarctic waters and elsewhere, and in the development of acoustic survey techniques. Both have served on international scientific bodies and are well known internationally for their work in fisheries acoustics. We also employ expert scientific and technical staff on a contractual basis to participate in surveys, and have associations with Cape Town-based research institutions and marine instrumentation companies for the development of specialised acoustic surveying equipment.
Our Sales and Services Department has established a network of highly skilled and experienced contractors to provide specialist engineering support in the operation and maintenance of a broad spectrum of oceanographic instruments. Through them we can provide a complete turn-key service covering the acquisition, set-up, operation, repair and maintenance of the equipment (on land or at sea), training, and comprehensive assistance in data collection.
